This year we have chosen three worthy charities to be the recipients of a portion of the Dionysos Greek Festival proceeds.

The Kalamazoo Jaycees

The Jaycees have always been about offering "the total experience," improving the personal and professional lives of its members. All projects and programs run by the Kalamazoo Jaycees fall within one of four major programming areas of development:

Community Development

The Kalamazoo Jaycees are strongly dedicated to promoting and improving the quality of life for everyone in the community by raising thousands of dollars in money and donations to help many various organizations. In addition, the Kalamazoo Jaycees perform thousands of hours of volunteer work per year to enhance the resources and facilities available to the public. The Kalamazoo chapter encourages its members to be informed of community issues and events occurring around them.

Individual Development

Individual Development (ID) focuses on personal growth - there is something for everyone. ID is all about ?you.? It is a great place for all Jaycee members to find something that truly interests them through a diverse and unique set of activities offered.

Management Development

This area encompasses all projects dealing with the primary purpose of chapter management. This includes budgeting, obtaining and managing operating funds. Fund-raising, managing public relations, training members, and keeping chapter records are prominent areas of focus.

Membership Development

This area encompasses all projects and activities that allow current Jaycees to get to know one another and to welcome new potential members to the organization.

International Development

The Jaycees have members living in many parts of the world and this area of development offers Jaycees a chance to learn about other cultures.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of America

For over a century, Big Brothers and Big Sisters have helped children reach their potential through professionally supported one-to-one relationships with proven results.

In 1904, a young New York City court clerk named Ernest Coulter was seeing more and more boys come through his courtroom. He recognized that caring adults could help many of these kids stay out of trouble, and he set out to find volunteers. That marked the beginning of the Big Brothers movement. By 1916, Big Brothers had spread to 96 cities across the country.

At around the same time, the members of a group called Ladies of Charity were befriending girls who had come through the New York Children?s Court. That group would later become Catholic Big Sisters.

Both groups continued to work independently until 1977, when Big Brothers of America and Big Sisters International joined forced and became Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

More than a century later, Big Brothers Big Sisters remains true to our founders' vision of bringing caring mentors into the lives of children. Big Brothers Big Sisters currently operates in all 50 states ... and in 35 countries around the world!
